I think we can all agree that this year has been… crazy.
At the end of every year, I like to reflect and think about what I want to change in the coming year. It’s fair to say we’ve all picked up some bad habits over the last few months. But I’m determined to make 2021 a better year, so I want to break them before January 1st.
I thought about some of the worst habits I picked up in 2020, and there’s a lot. But I decided I would focus on three main ones to tackle.
Here are the three habits I want to break in 2021:
Habit #1 – Relying too much on frozen food and takeout.
One major thing that was affected this year was my diet. I would stock up on frozen meals to limit my trips to the grocery store, and other evenings I just ordered takeout. Neither of these are healthy options and takeout is expensive, so this habit had to change.
I knew I wasn’t going to be able to go from this to prepping and cooking a new recipe every evening. One of my friends recommended Green Chef when I was asking them for advice. Green Chef is a meal kit delivery service that makes eating healthy so simple. I was apprehensive about how easy it would be, but I decided to try it as the subscription is flexible and you can pause or cancel at any time, and I’m so glad I did.
Green Chef delivers all the ingredients for your chosen meals to your door for the week, pre-portioned, so you don’t have to do any prep. They provide recipe cards that are easy to follow. It allowed me to explore new recipes such as Bavarian Pork with Mustard Aioli, and Caribbean Shrimp and Coconut Rice which I never would have tried before. Plus, Green Chef is the first USDA Certified Organic Company, so it’s super healthy and good for the environment.
Habit #2 – Too much screen time
Staying at home more means my screen time has gone through the roof. I know a certain amount is unavoidable, but it’s been so bad for me lately, I’ve been glued to my phone constantly reading news updates.
I’ve decided to turn off notifications from news outlets on my phone and limit my tv watch time to just one show an evening. With all this new screen-less time, I’m trying to get back into reading every night. I’ve just ordered three new books to help me kick this off.
Habit #3 – Not getting out of the house enough
To follow on from the last point, I’ve decided that I need to spend less time at home staring at screens, and more time outdoors. There were some periods over the last two months that I stayed home for a few days in a row and looking back, it definitely wasn’t good for me.
I’ve started going for a short walk every day, just around the neighborhood. I’m trying to do it in the mornings to set the day off right, but I know it’s not realistic every day so if I don’t get around to it till after work, then that’s good too.
Since I started making these changes, I’ve noticed a huge difference in how I’ve been feeling. Eating better meals thanks to Green Chef has definitely given me more energy throughout the week, which means I’m more likely to get out and go for my walks. And cooking a great homemade meal in the evening gives me a nice sense of achievement. Plus, I love knowing it’s not just good for me, but the environment as well, since meal kits have a lower carbon footprint than meals from the grocery store.
I’d highly recommend Green Chef to anyone who wants to cook more, or eat healthier meals. It’s super convenient, and whether you’re Vegan, Vegetarian, Keto, or looking for balanced family meals, Green Chef has a plan for you. Prices start at just $5.66 per serving, so it’s a no-brainer.
