I’ve been eating so badly all winter, I can’t remember the last time my body felt fantastic.
Now that spring is coming, it’s a fresh start to eating better, but I don’t know how to leave my bad habits behind.
Everybody loves meal kits, but I knew they weren’t lauded for their health-conscious options, just the convenience. Still, I could definitely use a more convenient way to get fresh produce into my diet.
I knew HelloFresh was one of the most popular meal kits, so I checked out their website. I was happy to see that they now offer Carb Smart and Calorie Smart meals! This was perfect. Now I just needed to see if there was food on the menu that I would actually eat.
I was happily surprised! There was Lemony Almond Crusted Chicken, Ginger Turkey Patties with Teriyaki Mushroom Sauce… fewer carbs with plenty of protein and vegetables. There were also common substitutes like cauliflower rice instead of rice. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Eating HelloFresh about 3 times a week would keep me accountable – they have plans for 2-4 people, 3-5 times a week, and I went with the smallest plan to start.
You also don’t have to stick to just these options if you don’t want to! You can go back and forth between the healthier options and some of the more gourmet or higher calorie recipes.
When my order arrived, I knew this would be something I could easily stick to. Everything was individually packaged by recipe, and the instruction cards were incredibly clear, even for a beginner like me.
My first meal, the Calorie Smart (410 kcal per serving) Togarashi Shrimp Stir-fry with Broccoli, Carrots, Cabbage, and Roasted Cashews came out delicious! The cashews made it extra filling and it reminded me of something I’d had in a restaurant once, without the guilt of high sodium and fat content. It didn’t feel at all restrictive or like a boring version; just a delicious meal that happened to have my nutritional goals in mind.
This would be a perfect way to keep my diet in check without any sort of grand overhaul – by adding more meals to my week that were Carb Smart (with 50g of carbs or less per serving) and Calorie Smart (650KCal or less), I would easily be able to swap a 30-minute HelloFresh recipe instead of a takeout meal on a busy evening.
Trying to count calories or my carb intake is not for me, and HelloFresh eliminates the need for guesswork. I love having the freedom to switch my recipes up every week, and since they have so much variety, I’ll never get bored.
Spring is here and with HelloFresh I’m feeling ready to bury my winter ways and defrost some smarter eating habits.
