My Secret To Finding Clothes Both My Kid And I Agree On

My Secret To Finding Clothes Both My Kid And I Agree On

The only thing more frustrating than getting my kid to wear clothes that go together is getting her to try them on in the first place. Let’s face it, kids are picky about their outfits. I don’t know why I thought my daughter would be any different from me when I was a kid. I guess the fashion gods were paying me back for my childhood—I used to only wear those swishy athletic pants and refused to wear a pair of jeans until at least 7th grade. My mom laughs at me now seeing how shopping for my kid is just as much of a pain. I’d gotten to the point of just ordering a bunch of clothes online in a few different sizes praying she’d wear something, and hoping they’d actually fit. That was then; now I have a secret to finding clothes that both my daughter and I approve of—it’s called Rockets of Awesome.

Rockets of Awesome is a subscription clothing box for kids ages 3-12, sent straight to your door every season. Once you put in your child’s preferences, their algorithm (plus personal stylists) assort a box based on your child’s unique likes and dislikes. Each box comes with 8 pieces that you can preview, approve, and make necessary swaps before it’s sent. Then, just have your kid try on the clothes, keep what you want, and send back the rest for free. Unbelievably simple.

To get started, I answered a few questions about my daughter’s likes and dislikes, filled out some info about her size, the colors she’ll wear and won’t wear, and any unique preferences. This meant I got to pick out styles that I’d like her to wear (the secret is if someone else besides mom says it’s cool she might like it!) And that was all I had to do. Easiest “shopping trip” ever.

The clothes arrived in an awesome box that my daughter was excited to dive into (she never gets mail addressed to her). The clothes were really soft and all the pieces went well together—plenty of options to mix and match. We got a couple cute tops, one with a sequin flip-up heart that she wears almost daily and another with black and white stripes that made her look absolutely adorable. She also got a “party sparkle skirt” which is a tulle skirt with shiny silver polka dots that she loves to twirl in. We ended up keeping nearly everything— 6/8 pieces is a huge win in my book. And all without any arguing or tears. Not only was the process convenient and painless, it was fun for us both.

We’ve since received a couple boxes and always look forward to it. Rockets of Awesome has made the whole shopping-for-kids-clothes-headache a thing of the past. My kid has clothes that actually fit properly and there’s no pleading or bargaining process to get her to wear them. If only my poor mom had Rockets of Awesome when I was a kid, the amount of stress and frustration that could have been avoided. Rockets of Awesome has become my favorite fashion secret, and the clothes aren’t even for me!
