There is an abundance of pharmaceutical drugs on the market claiming to cure conditions, ease ailments, and prevent problems, and much of this may be the real deal. But there are droves of folks who’d love to go the all-natural route and try a remedy that may free them of discomfort, or worse, and the spice turmeric may just be the go-to for health that doctors may not be telling them about.
What’s turmeric? As per Dr. Weil, “Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a culinary spice that spans cultures – it is a major ingredient in Indian curries, and makes American mustard yellow. But evidence is accumulating that this brightly colored relative of ginger is a promising disease-preventive agent as well, probably due largely to its anti-inflammatory action.” When great taste and well-being go hand-in-hand, the solution to many of life’s biggest troubles may be worth giving a try.
Delays diabetes
According to Huffington Post, “Curcumin, the compound in turmeric responsible for that bright hue, is behind a whole host of the health benefits attributed to the spice. Among people with prediabetes, curcumin capsules were found to delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes in a 2012 study. Over nine months, study participants were given either curcumin supplements or placebo capsules. Just over 16 percent of people taking the placebo pill were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes by the end of the study, while no one taking curcumin was.” Flavor your food and get healthier in the process. A win-win any way you try it!
Prevents Alzheimer’s disease
As per Organic Facts, “As a powerful antioxidant herb, turmeric can stimulate neural activity and prevent cognitive degradations, which often comes in the form of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Numerous studies have shown that curcumin is highly efficient in clearing out amyloid plaque, which is a major indication of Alzheimer’s progression.”
Additionally, Authority Nutritionnotes, “There is also the possibility that it could help improve memory and make you smarter.” With nothing to lose, adding a dash or two to your favorite dishes may be the smartest move you’ll make!
Soothes the stomach
A stomach ache is no reason for a belly laugh, and a quick cure is a must-have. Turmeric can turn tummy troubles around. As per Organic Facts, “Turmeric has long been used as a stomach soother, and is particularly useful for constipation, cramping, and irritable bowel syndrome. The anti-inflammatory activity of curcumin also comes into play here, as it lowers the chances of developing ulcers, bleeding in the bowels, and generally eliminates irritation throughout the gut. Turmeric is often recommended for patients suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease and even more serious conditions, such as Crohn’s disease.” It is also high in fiber, which is a plus for overall nutritional health.
