I’m a cold person. Not in the sense of emotions, but in general when my body runs cold. Even in the summer, if there’s a windchill I’ll toy with the idea of bringing a jacket out with me.
And growing up, I realized that your jacket and your accessories say just as much about your outfit as the outfit itself. Sometimes, your outfit can be completely bland but your jacket does all the talking.
As for me, I’m partial to a fur-trimmed coat. Whether it’s a long, floor duster a la Penny Lane in Almost Famous or your classic 70s denim bomber, I’m always going to consider a fur moment.
As for you, you may have a similar position. Maybe you opt for the mob wife aesthetic: a full floor-length, fake mink coat suitable for Marilyn Monroe.
Or, you prefer an edgier approach. The leather blazer is one of the most-loved, fall jackets of all time. Right now, as the weather starts to turn, I reach for my leather jacket every weekend.
And then, of course, there’s the staple denim jacket. Everyone has one, everyone has had one…and everyone needs one. Whether you wear your mom’s from the 80s, or you just picked up a new, intentionally-oversized Levi’s moment, it’s inevitable.
It doesn’t matter what type of jacket fits your style, it’s about wearing a jacket that makes you excited to show it off. Sometimes, it’s all about what’s on the outside that counts.
This fall, don’t just sling on your dad’s old fleece that’s pilling…choose a jacket that you can wear all fall that speaks to your particular style.
Here are my picks for the best jackets to wear during the fall this year!
Show Me Your Mumu Penny Lane Faux Leather Jacket
Literally, how perfect. If I am rocking one jacket this autumn and winter, it’s this one. Nothing says sexy and mysterious quite like a Penny Lane jacket. What’s hiding under that coat? Could be sweats, could be absolutely nothing.
This is a statement jacket. Sure, you can wear it day-to-day…but I love this when you want your coat do the real talking.
Free People Annice Faux Fur Coat
Another coat fit for a rockstar. This is perfect for the mob wife or the rockstar’s mistress. It’s a coat that will get you looks, and for good reason. Plus, fur is the best to keep you warm and cozy as it gets colder.
Again, I think a full-length coat is the move this year. You can keep your legs warmer, and it just adds to the fabulous fashion of it all.
Princess Polly Goldsmith Faux Leather Bomber Jacket
I had my eye on this jacket for a few months before finally pulling the trigger. I’m not a blazer girl, I like an oversized look with an unstructured drop shoulder. But….this is one of my favorite purchases so far this season.
Wear it with virtually any outfit and it makes sense. Available in a million colors, this will serve as a wardrobe staple for years to come.
Anthropologie The Weston Denim Boyfriend Jacket
As I said before, the denim jacket is inevitable in your wardrobe. It’s great to pull on over a sweatshirt during the colder fall months. A denim jacket is the most casual, so reserve this for day-drinking or brunches.
I like this one from Anthropologie because it’s high-quality and has a stylish, oversized look. While you could have borrow it from your boyfriend, you won’t be swimming in this so it looks too big. Your Anthropologie Weston Denim Boyfriend Jacket feels just right.
Pull & Bear Short Felt Textured Coat
I adore this coat because it’s ideal for those cozy fall days. Maybe you’re going to a pumpkin patch or apple picking, or maybe you’re dressing up for fun. It’s an elevated, intentional piece that will even go great with work attire.
This lovely, relaxed fit, the semi-cropped style and structure of the coat itself, doesn’t look sloppy. One of my absolute favorites on this list and it’s quite cost effective.
Quince Double-Faced Merino Wool Scarf Coat
One of the major trends I’m seeing right now is the scarf coat. Have you ever run out of the house and realized it’s much colder than you thought…but it’s much too late to go back and grab a scarf?
These coats mitigate that panic. Now, you can loosely hang the scarf at your shoulders until you’re ready to wrap it around you. It’s chic while being resourceful…all women deserve this kind of coat!
