Ranking Girl Scout Cookies — From Worst to Best

Ranking Girl Scout Cookies — From Worst to Best

If you have a major sweet tooth like me, you know exactly why this time of year is so important. Why? Because January through April is officially Girl Scout season. And as much as I try to play it cool — I cannot possibly be more excited.

For the most part, I try to keep a healthy paleo and keto diet filled with wholesome foods that are rich in antioxidants and nutrients. But every so often, I indulge in the dark side, because they have cookies. Hey, sometimes you gotta live a little, right? Plus, it’s good for the soul to indulge every once in a while… Especially when that indulgence involves a rich chocolate filling.

Girl Scout Cookie Season

Girl Scout cookies have been a classic staple in American households since the 1920s, and they only seem to be gaining in popularity as time goes on. This is in part due to the fact that Girl Scouts have recently blessed us with brand new cookies, including the highly anticipated Adventureful cookies, which dropped in 2022, and the Raspberry Rally’s, which were sadly discontinued in 2023. (Cue the string section.)

Since it’s that time of year again, I’m going to be making an official ranking top-tier list of the best and worst Girl Scout cookies in the history of Girl Scouts. (My stomach is currently growling just thinking of all the gooey, nostalgic flavors.)

I’ve given this list more thought than I care to admit. But hey, I freakin’ love this brand, and therefore I have really heated opinions on each unique flavor. (Don’t judge me. We all have our hobbies.)

Let’s dive into the top 12 Girl Scout cookies of all time, ranked from worst to best.

The Worst Girl Scout Cookies

Trefoils Shortbread Cookies

@pastrywithjenn

I love this shortbread mold for baking intricate-looking cookies without a lot of effort. Recipe and product info are in the link in my profile. #shortbread #shortbreadcookies #holidaycookies #holidaybaking #cookietok #christmascookies #surlatable #cookietiktok #bakingtok #decoratedcookies

I don’t know, you guys. To me, these cookies are just “meh.” Not the worst, but definitely lacking in character. Some may even say the Trefoils shortbread cookies are “basic af.” The lack of flavoring here is such a snooze fest that I have to rank them at the bottom of my list.

3 out of 10 from me.

Peanut Butter Sandwich Do-Si-Dos

In my humble opinion, the Peanut Butter Sandwich Do-si-dos cookie is simply too rich in flavor. I can’t have more than three without getting a stomach ache, and the last thing I want to feel after buying a fresh batch of cookies is sluggish and sick.

Although I am a fan of peanut butter sandwiches, the excessive additional sugar from the cookie on top of it all is too overbearing of an overall flavor. While the idea of a peanut butter sandwich cookie is a cute gimmick, I’m just not sold on the overall taste. Plus, the addition of oatmeal to my cookie just feels like a chore to eat.

I give it a 3 out of 10. Sorry!

Lemonades Cookies

Next, we have another underdog Girl Scout flavor: The Lemonade cookies. I like the refreshing tanginess of the flavor, but it’s a rare day when I find myself “craving” the Lemonades cookies because they just aren’t that memorable. It’s like something you’d snack on at a family gathering you don’t want to attend at your great aunt’s house.

With that being said, I like the fact that it’s a bit lighter in taste than most cookies on this list. Unlike the peanut butter sandwich cookie, for instance, I don’t feel sluggish and stuffed when I’ve snacked on a handful.

It’s a 4 out of 10 in my book.

Raspberry Rally (discontinued)

@livekindly

🍪 Would you pay $200 for a box of vegan Girl Scout cookies? The new Raspberry Rallys are only sold online, and the scarcity is prompting resellers to make massive price hikes! At least we always have Thin Mints. 😅 Which is your favorite cookie? #vegangirlscoutcookies #vegan #plantbased #veganfood #sustainability #sustainableliving #ecofriendly #tastetest #girlscoutcookieseason #raspberryrally #thinmints #vegancookies

The Raspberry Rally Girl Scout cookies were all the rage back in 2023. What makes them seminal is the fact that they were the first cookies in Girl Scout history to only be sold online. According to the company, they wanted to help teach young girls who are a part of the program how to learn e-commerce skills.

While I admire the effort, I think it’s sort of comical to imagine anyone under the age of 20 even knowing what the term “e-commerce” means. The idea of a bunch of 8-year-olds becoming marketing experts is just weird to me and totally strays from the whole nostalgic bend of Girl Scouts going from door to door while chugging along a wagon full of cookies. Because of this alone, I rank Raspberry Rally low on the list.

That being said, the flavor is delicious. The mixture of pink berry filling fused with dark chocolate in a thin mint texture is *chef’s kiss* genius. But because it’s discontinued, we have no reason to harp on the past. Plus, according to The Atlantic Journal, it’s the second least healthy cookie on the menu.

For all these reasons, I’ll give it a 5 out 10.

Peanut Butter Patties / Tagalong Cookies

I know people love the Tagalong cookies, but they’re wayyy too rich in flavor for me. After I eat only three, I feel the need to go on a long run. Because I’m factoring in more than just the flavor, it’s important for me to purchase food that leaves me satisfied, yet energized. Tagalongs just do the opposite for me. The rich fusion of peanut butter and chocolate is also a recipe for my skin breaking out in a fresh batch of acne. Yeah, no thanks!

Girl Scout S’mores Cookie

Another flavor that’s simply too overbearing for me. Yet despite not being a huge fan of the flavor, I really appreciate the overall essence of this particular cookie, and the nostalgic feelings it evokes. With one bite, I’m instantly brought back to summer camp, gathered by the bonfire under a canopy of twinkling stars. I can practically smell the firewood and pine trees…

P.S., If you’re a fan of these cookies, make sure you stock up on them fast. 2025 is their last year of sales before discontinuing! As for me, I give this flavor a 6 out of 10.

Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie

I appreciate the addition of sea salt, and I love a chocolate chip cookie as much as the next person. But when it comes to Girl Scout’s version of this treat, it just doesn’t leave any memorable impact. I personally prefer the gooiness and warmth of oven-baked Toll House cookies. The Caramel Chocolate Chip is missing a uniqueness factor that most of the other flavors on this list are stuffed with.

6 out of 10.

Lemon-Ups Cookies

I like Lemon-Ups a bit more than I like Lemonades, but they’re still not delicious enough to make it to the “best” list. With that being said, I do find it adorable how they etch inspirational quotes into the cookies. Now that’s just adorable if you ask me.

The Best Girl Scout Cookies

Adventurefuls Cookies

Now let’s get to my favorites. I’ll admit, I initially thought I was gonna hate the new trendy Adventurfuls cookies since they look mushy and overbearing in flavor. Despite the fact that brownies are my favorite dessert of all time, I turned my nose up to this specific flavor for too long. But now I have learned my lesson to never judge a cookie by its cover.

Adventurefuls cookies taste like brownies, but with a twist- instead of the mushy texture you’d expect, these have the exact same texture as thin mints. Yum! Don’t mind if I take one (or twenty.)

Toast-Yay! Cookies

I love Toast-Yay! both because of the adorable name and the unique French toast flavor. Honestly, I admire treats that offer a totally new taste than our palettes are used to, and Toast-Yay! does just that.

8 out of 10.

Caramel deLites / Samoas Cookies

Ah, the Samoas cookies… a national American treasure. As significant to our country’s culture as baseball cards, chewing gum, and Marilyn Monroe. These cookies have been around since the 70s, and have been serving as a staple in US desserts for several decades now. The caramel vanilla and coconut flavors offer the perfect taste of nostalgia and will leave you with all the warm feelings inside.

It’s a classic. 10 out of 10, for sure.

Thin Mints

Last but not least, we have the beloved Thin Mints. It’s no wonder these babies are the best-selling Girl Scout cookies of all time. One of my favorite after-school activities while growing up was taking my thin mints and putting them in the freezer for a few hours. Then, once they’re all frozen and icy, I’ll snack on them while watching TV.

I love thin mints, because although they offer a brilliant, rich flavor, they don’t leave you feeling gross afterwards. Honestly, there’s no competition here: thin mints take the lead.
