In today’s world, everyone wants to look younger. We want to halt the aging process before it even begins…which is why Botox and filler are so popular amongst all age groups.
No longer are we waiting for the first sign of wrinkles to take action against the wages of time. I was in Sephora the other day when two girls no older than 12 were bragging about which retinol they use. They don’t even know what taxes are, but they can tell me about retinol. Horrifying.
And in our efforts for smooth, supple skin that doesn’t show a trace of aging, everyone seems to be chasing The Secret. Whether it’s a certain diet or a Botox placement, or a skincare product, there’s always going to be the next big anti-aging fad that promises to replace the Fountain of Youth.
Kim Kardashian famously said she’d eat poop if it meant she’d look younger…so you know she’s serious about keeping her youthful appearance for as long as possible. And, I can’t lie, she looks fantastic…and so does her mother, Kris Jenner.
Whether it be good genes, access to top-rated dermatologists and skincare experts, consistent facials, Botox, or her own SKKN brand…Kim K will always be on the hunt for the next “Look Younger, Quicker” trend.
Recently, Kardashian went viral for her TikTok tour of her SKKN office. She recreated a popular trend by showing different eccentric objects in her office, saying “I’m Kim Kardashian, of course I have a tanning bed…and a red light bed!”

And of course it went viral because it’s Kim Kardashian and there’s nothing normal about a red light bed in your office…but it got people wondering.
What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy (RLT) is a technology that uses low-level wavelengths of red light to treat common skin conditions like wrinkles or psoriasis. It’s the latest skincare trend for a reason: it treats a multitude of skin problems like acne, aging, inflammation, stretch marks, and more.
While you don’t have to use a full-on red light bed like Kim Kardashian…you may recognize the more popular red light face masks. You know, the ones that make you look like you’re from the future or Mars.
Kim is a longtime sufferer of psoriasis…and as an anti-aging advocate, it makes perfect sense that she’d try red light therapy to help heal her skin quickly. But Kim’s been on the RLT train for a while.
This past Christmas, Kardashian shared some of the gifts she got for others (wrapped in recycled Skims packaging, of course). Among those luxurious gifts were Red Light Therapy masks courtesy of CurrentBody and Omnilux.
The red lights help penetrate the skin’s surface and may produce a positive effect in your cells that strengthens the mitochondria. If you learned anything in school, it should’ve been that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. So, if you have a strong mitochondria, your body may respond faster to healing.
Does Red Light Therapy Work?
@drspf I believe in office red light will always beat home devices. Red light is a longer wavelength that can help with acne and collagen without causing micro trauma to the skin like lasers and peels. When looking into red light therapy, websites stress that more research is needed. While there have been plenty of studies on red light therapy suggesting the myriad of benefits for your skin health…the jury is still out on whether or not it is truly effective.
Red light therapy originated in Space, when NASA started using it to grow potatoes. Then, they transitioned to using it to heal astronaut’s hand wounds. Since then, RLT has been an ever-evolving research process. While studies are promising, the long-term benefits have yet to be confirmed.
So, if you decide to try red light therapy, take caution that it may not be the savior you’re looking for. However, a lot of people are seeing benefits…so it’s worth a shot.

If you want to try red light therapy, but don’t want to install a full bed in your office, the RLT mask is super popular right now. A few major skincare brands like Dr. Dennis Gross offer versions of the red light therapy mask, and people are raving about them.
